Happy students!
"I was a returning private pilot after literally decades of not flying and looking for refresher training/biannual flight review to get me back in the air. Tom suggested I do the tailwheel endorsement training and double up on the flight time I would need for my BFR.
Bam! Got them both done in the fall of 2021 and I am back in the air! It was a really fun and efficient way to get it done. Tom is a great pilot and an even better instructor. I am planning on further training with him including UPRT and a float plane endorsement." Rob Cousins, Tailwheel/BFR September 2021 "As a new pilot with less than a year since I've got my PPL, all the stall training was fresh in my memory. While I was definitely proficient in quick recovery for a self-induced stall, I wasn't sure how I would manage in a more serious upset or an incipient spin. That's why I decided to take the UPRT course with Tom. We spent 3 sessions in a very nice Super-Decathlon and went through a lot of upsets, stalls, spins and a few loops and rolls for good measure. I feel that I have a much better understanding of what happens with the plane in an upset and a much higher chance of recovery in case it ever happens to me. Tom is a great instructor and it was a pleasure flying with him. " Ciprian Cosma, Private Pilot, UPRT 06-2022 "I recently did the 2 day UPRT course given by Tom. Since I did the same type of training when I was a Capt. at United Airlines in a 777 simulator, I was able to evaluate Tom's approach to UPRT. Training was great! Doing this type of training in the aircraft is much, much better and more realistic than in a simulator. The Ground School was very complete and very informative, just technical enough to really understand what we were going to do in the aircraft. Both flights were well organized, instructive and overall a lot of fun. If you have never had Upset Preventive and Recovery Training, this is a course that should be on your "must do" list. As a refresher, the course is superb and a great reminder of how to react when you are upside down or pointed straight down. Highly recommended!!"

It proved to be a great learning opportunity and was one of the most fun experiences I had during flight training. When you first meet him, you'll see that he has a genuine love of aviation and thoroughly enjoys sharing his passion with others. He has a lifetime of experience and knowledge that make him an outstanding instructor. When you finish training, you won't just know the answer but actually understand the theory and reasoning behind it. I would highly recommend Tom Rogers for any form of flight training." Aidan Hurley, CFI, Spin Training 06/2021 "Tom is a very experienced pilot and a very helpful/knowledgeable instructor. I did my Upset Recovery Training (UPRT) Course with him, and it has been very valuable to me. Tom not just made me a better pilot to advance my flying skill but a safer pilot by recognizing unsafe events before it happens. I'd highly recommend him!" Ryan (Chang-Pei) Liu, Comm Pilot, UPRT Client 06/2022 "I’ve wanted to get my Tailwheel Endorsement for years when I found Tom Rogers and Olde Thyme Aviation online! Tom had the perfect pace of instruction and was able to facilitate my syllabus and timeline around my challenging work schedule. Tom was able to identify my weaknesses and adjust our training profile so that we maximized the impact of every sortie. Tom has a great balance between minimizing your costs while ensuring you are actually safe to operate! Would highly recommend Tom and Olde Thyme Aviation for your Tailwheel Endorsement." Kevan Barry, ATP, Captain Alaska Airlines, Tail Wheel Endorsement 04/2022 “Patient, thorough, and able to explain extremely complex tasks in an easy-to-understand format, Tom is one of those rare pilots that melds enjoyment and learning in a way that only the best instructors provide. Seek him out, learn from his decades of experience, enjoy the flight instruction, and become a better pilot.” Trey McBride, CFI Student, Spin Training, 10/2022 "Get in, buckle up, and open your mind to learning! Tom is a super instructor and you will leave wanting to come back for more. Tom's upset recovery course should be a part of every pilots training". Gary Bell, Private pilot, Instrument Rating, UPRT 09/2022 "Tom's instruction is great! He clearly has a huge depth of flying knowledge and real world experience. Whether it's basic techniques or advanced nuances, he is happy to impart this knowledge to his students. The training was fun and interesting. Flying some different aircraft types was a great bonus. " Scott R. Privite Pilot, Tail Wheel Course, 08-2022 "I first met Tom Rogers at Alaska Airlines in 1990 and had the pleasure of flying with him a few times over the years before we both upgraded to Captain. Toms reputation at Alaska Airlines was above reproach, he also earned many accolades and positions during his 31 year tenure. I recently decided to get tail dragger current and was delighted to find Tom at Old Thyme Aviation, he brought me back up to speed efficiently and very expertly in the Citabria. It was no surprise that I found Tom to be a great instructor, he gave me everything I needed and very little I didn’t. Tom has that rare gift of possessing excellent people skills in conjunction with excellent teaching/flying skills. On one lesson we were blown out and Tom saw this for the opportunity that it was and took me out for a taxi lesson in high wind as we returned the Citabria to the hangar. This was very beneficial and enlightening! Don’t hesitate to contact and train with Tom Rogers, you will find it to be a fun and rewarding experience." Brian Richmond, Captain Alaska Airline Retired, ATP, CFII, TT 30,788 hrs "Tom Rogers has conducted my two most recent biennial flight reviews, both in a Citabria. Tom’s experience, skill, knowledge, and judgment instills confidence that I am getting a comprehensive flight review along with some of the best flight training available. Tom is a true professional with high standards for safety and performance. He loves his work and demonstrates that with an enthusiastic, easy-going, and generous demeanor. Tom has my highest recommendation." Raleigh Rasmussen, December 2022 |
